Each year the Latino Community Center partners with the Pittsburgh Pirates for Latinx youth in Pittsburgh to prepare students and their families for a successful school year. The Back-to-School Bash will be a multi-day event with both virtual and in-person gatherings. On the final day, families will be invited to PNC park to participate in games and activities and collect backpacks filled with school supplies.

“The goal of our Back-to-School Bash event is to celebrate the new school year with our students and ensure they have everything they need to start the school year off right,” said Rosamaria Cristello, the LCC’s Executive Director. The backpacks are not full yet, however.

The LCC is asking all who are able to purchase items from their Amazon list. The list consists of art supplies, hygiene necessities, electronics, and other essential materials for students of all ages. The prices of the items vary, but all contributions are appreciated.

The LCC expects to support over 230 students with this year’s Back-to-School Bash donations. After the event has ended, the LCC will continue to serve Pittsburgh’s Latino community through programs, resources, and other assistance.

In the wake of the pandemic, many Latinx students were struggling with academic performance and attendance. The LCC found that in Pittsburgh public schools, Hispanic students were underrepresented in efforts to help students achieve their goals. So, they decided to implement new programs.

Through their “SOY Pittsburgh” programs, the LCC offers educational services to students in elementary and middle school. The goal is to advance students academically through personal tutoring. The LCC aims to culturally empower students by offering bilingual instruction and connecting with Latinx community partners.

These services have made it possible for Latinx students to excel academically, and take pride in their culture. If you are interested in contributing to this cause, check out the LCC’s Amazon Wishlist.

Remember, when you shop through AmazonSmile, choose ‘LCC’ as your preferred charity. Amazon will donate 0.5% of the profit to the selected organization at no cost to you!

“We depend on our local community to help us with collecting school supplies,” said Cristello. “Every donation counts, and every donation supports a Latinx student in our community. This event helps us send a message to our children and youth that the whole region is behind them and excited for their education!”

The youth of Pittsburgh are the future of our city, our country, and our world. Please consider donating what you can, and spread the word to make this school year exceptional!
