Port Authority shared on Thursday night that one of its bus drivers has tested positive for Covid-19. The driver is thought to have been infected outside of the job and is currently being held out of work.
Port Authority CEO Katharine Kelleman wished their employee a speedy recovery and added, “the health and safety of our employees is our top priority now more than ever, and while this case hits close to home, it will not deter us from continuing to provide bus, rail and ACCESS service during this difficult time. We’re in this together and we will get through it together.”
Recently the Port Authority implemented new boarding rules and reduced its service by 25%. In addition, to reduce exposure and possible contagions to both its drivers and its clients, it has been disinfecting vehicles and common work areas.
The Authority has more than 2,600 employees, including 1,300 operators and 800 mechanics.
