Lighthouse Immersive, producers of the Immersive Van Gogh experience, came together in partnership with Fundación Familia Kahlo to offer the experiential Immersive Frida Kahlo: Her Life. Her Love. Her Art. exhibition in cities across the US, including Pittsburgh. The foundation preserves Frida Kahlo’s artwork and promotes causes that she fought for during her life, including female empowerment and creating a more equal and just society in Mexico and beyond.

Living ahead of her time

Presente spoke with Vicente Fusco of Lighthouse Productions who is Associate Producer of Immersive Frida Kahlo. Fusco began his career in Monterrey, Mexico, promoting tour productions across the country for Cirque du Soleil, Cavalia and Slava’s Snowshow. Vicente pointed out the significance of Frida living ahead of her time, which is evident in the exhibition –

“The show is personal, it really depicts who she was as a person… Frida was someone who did what she wanted when she wanted. She didn’t care what others thought about her back in those days.”

Fusco emphasized that even though Frida experienced pain throughout her life, she also enjoyed many amazing friendships, celebrating life, and connecting with people across the societal spectrum. “She lived life to the fullest.”

About Immersive Frida Kahlo

A brilliant, bold, and uncompromising painter, Kahlo’s work is globally recognized for its raw emotional vitality, vibrant colorwork, and unflinching intimacy.

The Immersive Frida Kahlo exhibition features some of the artist’s best-known works “brought to life” by the world-renowned master of digital art, Italy’s Massimiliano Siccardi, accompanied by composer Luca Longobaridi’s resonant score.

Vicente Fusco added that the producers don’t necessarily influence the audience’s reaction to the show. He said

“we give the content, but we want the audience to experience Immersive Frida Kahlo on their own. The show leaves room for the viewer’s own interpretation of the work.” So far, the exhibition has received raving reviews!
