Often the best way to lead is by example. To encourage local Latino families to dream big no matter their current circumstances, Lucia Jacobs, decided to enter the American Royal Beauties (ARB) Pageant in Pennsylvania.

As a case manager placed with Latino Community Center through Public Allies, the 23-year-old Peruvian helps families overcome complicated social challenges, get access to the resources they need or serves as a translator ensuring their concerns are heard. Lucia’s passion for community service is what drove her to enter the Mrs. Keystone State competition with American Royal Beauties.

“I loved ARBs motto ‘Crown to Serve’ because, in my life, that is what matters the most – making a difference for those less fortunate.”

– Lucia Jacobs

ARB is a pageant organization that believes in empowering women so they can empower others and emphasizes the importance of community service and true beauty, inner beauty, found on the inside. Lucia absolutely embodies all of those qualities, and she is bella too.

The team at LCC, friends, and family were extremely supportive and accomodating during the process, while she attended interviews and presentations. There were 11 contestants in the final competition and she was the winner for the Mrs. Keystone State category featuring married contestants.

Lucia, her husband, Anthony Jacobs, and supporters were super thrilled when she won the state’s competition on April 30. In her return back to work she has used her experience as a motivator for the community. It is a proud moment for Pittsburgh Latinos!

Now Jacobs is focused on the national competition which will take place at the Duke Energy Convention Center in Cincinnatti, Ohio in the month of July. The final event receives wider media coverage and awards winners $500.

¡Estamos orgullosos de ti Lucia y vamos a ti!

Lucia, we are proud of your work with the community, your drive to lead by example, and your encouragement for all to dream big in spite of the circumstances.

¡FELICITACIONES and we’re rooting for you!
