At approximately 10:23 AM, County 9-1-1 received a call from the Rustic Ridge Drive and Brookside Drive in Plum Borough reporting a house explosion with multiple injuries and several houses on fire.
First responders from the police and fire department arrived on scene and reported that there were people trapped under debris and that it appeared as if one house had exploded, and two others were engulfed in fire.
At this time, one person is confirmed deceased. Several people remain unaccounted for and crews are continuing search operations. Three people were transported to local hospitals. Identification of the individual who is deceased will be made by the Allegheny County Office of the Medical Examiner according to its protocols.

Currently, there are three structures destroyed and at least a dozen more damaged in some way. Water tankers responded from both Allegheny and Westmoreland counties and 18 different fire departments. The county’s Emergency Management officials and Fire Marshals are on scene and investigating. This remains an active scene and first responders are expected to remain on scene for several hours.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting residents impacted by the explosion. Allegheny County Human Services have set up a Disaster Distress Helpline. Residents can call 1-800-985-5990 or text “TalkWithUs” to 66746.
Residents that need a place to go are being directed to Renton VFD, 1996 Old Mine Road. (This site is only for impacted residents. Others will be turned away.)

Allegheny County Emergency Management, the Fire Marshal’s Office, County Police and Human Services all remain on the scene to assist.
